2008 Wyoming National Rainbow Gathering

This year my son asked if we could go to the National Rainbow Gathering, since it was just one state away. So we went. We set up a camp at Kid Village and plugged in helping the kitchen and organic community that was happening there. Every thing was super chipper. But on July 3rd, there was an incident in Kid Village. Every person at that Gathering  was peaceably assembled as guaranteed their right by the first Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America! The Federal Government opened fire upon US Citizenry using less than lethal weapons like paintball guns with chemical pepper balls and automatic rubber bullet firing machine guns, and tasers. I saw what happened. If you want to talk about it it is okay to do so here.

On July 5th, I set up a small structure and hung the “Camp Baha” banner, then at 2pm, I gave a talk out in the main Meadow just in front of Kid Village, where the shootings happened. Only 3 people came to my talk, “New Jerusalem in the Rockies.” The talk was killer and the audience was young and enthusiastic. Most people left the gathering early. The ACLU is investigating the Federal Forest Agency for criminal and civil charges.

Prayer is in order.

    Peace,
This is the first news I’ve heard about the 2008 Rainbow Gathering. It turns my stomach to hear about the Feds firing on civilians, and I wonder what their excuse was.
My curiosity about the wrongdoing, however, is overshadowed by a burning desire to hear about your “killer” talk. I’ve seen your presentation of the Divine Standard on youtube, and I wonder if your talk on New Jerusalem was recorded so it too could be uploaded to youtube. If not, perhaps you can post your notes here for us to read.

The 2009 National Rainbow Gathering is in New Mexico from July 1-7. Scouting for the exact site begins May 1. The Resources Department of the Forest Service (Think Yogi Bear and the ranger) is a little upset at reputation problem the LEO’s (Forest Service Law Enforcement Officers – Think Delta Force/Nazi SS trained to harass peaceful First Amendment practicing gatherers) present, especially in light of the ACLU Wyoming report establishing that there was legal misconduct by the LEO’s at Kid Village last year in Wyoming. 2009 should be a lot calmer.

I’m considering attending this year’s 2009 festival, it will be our first one. I am however, concerned for myself and my young children’s safety. Please comment or give me some tips for safety.
We are coming for the peace and unity. We don’t want to be in any harmful energy if at possible. thank you

JD, I’ve been to 16 National Gatherings over the past 20 years. My 11 year old has been to 6 of them. He has a great time when we go, as do I. I would recommend the experience and adventure to anyone with an open mind and a good heart. Tons of great food, culture and variety like music, dance and enlightening workshops. If you do go to New Mexico this year and you would like to meet me you can find me first at Camp Baha and second at Kid Village, just ask for “Peace.”

I don’t think that with the recent regime change in Washington that the same thing will happen this year. You can always leave if you don’t like it also. But if you do go, be prepared. This site will help you get oriented and supplied:

    Namaste!

In response to JD’s concerns about the safety of her children. I have no idea what the cops are going to or not going to do in New Mexico. But here’s my standard rap, when the cops show up (you’ll hear the call of “6 up”), if you are not in a position to deal with them, stroll in the opposite direction and take yourself out of the scene before it blows up. We’ll be out in the woods and it’s real easy to just walk calmly and slowly away.

    Hope this helps.

    Love,
    Karin

OOOOOOOOOhhhhhh my goodness. I’ve been going to Rainbow Gatherings since I was a teenager. I spiritual camp-hopped the way some folks bar-hop. I just became a Baha’i this year, and the other day wondered, “I wonder if there are any Baha’i camps at Nationals? I’ve never seen one.” Today, while tossing around the idea of looking for a ride to Nationals in NM, I looked it up…. I googled “Bahai rainbow family”. DUDE!!! Here you are!!! I feel like my people found my people and they have all been celebrating and waiting for me to come find them!! I want to run around in circles and pee like a puppy! YAAAAAAYYYY!!! I’ll see you all out in the woods!!! I can’t wait to be around a campfire and cook and pray with other Bahai’s!! Give thanks!! By the way, I posted this up in another section of this page, not realizing that the whole page is not necessarily for people who go to gatherings… regardless, I just want to add that my son is ten and has been to more gatherings than I can count. We have never had problems for the very reason that Karin demonstrated – we avoid any type of discord or conflict if we see it trying to rear its head. Trust that you are protected and loved. You are.
